Some Tips for Carpet Cleaning

Carpeting can be a major home investment. A carpet can last for a lifetime if it is properly cared for. Carpets that are not properly maintained and cleaned can become damaged or even cause illness. Keep your carpet clean from both a financial and health standpoint – find out more!

Carpet stain removal

Hand cleaning will work well for small stains. This will make it easier to get rid of the stain as soon as possible. It is much harder to remove a stain after it has set.

You can immediately blot the stain, taking out most of its moisture. Overblotting can cause damage to the pile. If the blotting does not work, you can use any of the many household products like baking soda, vinegar, or a commercial carpet cleaner. Spray some of the solution on the stain and then immediately blot.

If the stain remains fresh, this solution should suffice. You may also try mixing one part white wine vinegar and one part water. Allow the stain to dry for around 10 minutes. Use a sponge or a brush to clean the area. Rinse with warm water. Let the area air dry.

If your stains persist in your cleaning techniques, you might need to use a carpet cleaning machine that is specifically designed for your carpet.

Removal of wax

Carpet wax is notoriously difficult for you to remove. Before you start removing the wax, let it cool off and harden. The sharp edge of your knife can be used to cut off as much of the wax possible. You can place the remaining wax in a brown bag, paper towel or wet towel on top. Iron it at a warm temperature. Instead of sticking to the carpet, the wax will stick on the bag or towel.

Preventative care

You can prevent carpet damage and keep it clean by taking some preventative measures. Carpets that are in better condition will be easier to clean.

Vacuuming is the first and most important. Vacuuming is limited to the surface of dirt. It should be done no less than once a week. This can help prevent more dirt and dust getting down into the fibers. It is recommended that high traffic areas be attended to on an ongoing basis.
