MiBCI has three standing subcommittees that identify projects and partnership opportunities available to members. These subcommittees meet as needed to work on their projects. Members can join any subcommittees and work on any projects that interest them. Members should also see the subcommittees as an opportunity to bring partners in on existing projects.
MiBCI's standing committees are: - Coordination/Development: Primarily responsible for the development of tools to coordinate conservation activities between agencies, NGOs, and individuals. This includes the identification of available funding sources, identification of ongoing conservation activities, identification of available researchers, and making connections between these resources to further conservation.
- Research/Monitoring: Primarily responsible for the collection and promulgation of current or ongoing research and monitoring, identification of research and monitoring priorities, providing technical expertise to researchers and land managers on an as needed basis, and the identification of knowledge gaps.
- Education/Outreach: Primarily responsible for the development and maintenance of material on the Initiative’s web site, organization of the annual ornithological congress, recruitment of new Initiative members, facilitation of contacts with landowners, and the development of outreach materials including educational publications, press releases, and publicity. The Subcommittee may also develop materials pertinent to bird-related recreation and research relevant current events in bird conservation and bird biology.
