MiCBI Ornithological Congress 2009Location: North Central Michigan College, Petoskey Registration for the full Congress is $60 (there is a $10 late fee for registrations postmarked after 3 March 2008) which includes lunch and dinner on Friday and Saturday. One-day registration for Friday or Saturday is available at a cost of $35 for each day which includes lunch and dinner. Admission on Sunday is free. In an effort to keep costs down and to reduce generation of waste, we will not be making "free stuff" (e.g. tote bags, notepads, pens, water bottles, t-shirts, etc.) for registrants. Brochure Citizen Science FairSeveral of Michigan's conservation organizations will be joining us to share information about opportunities for both scientists and non-scientists to help in conserving the state's bird species. Admission to the citizen science fair is free, but we ask that you submit a registration form to help us better plan to accomodate attendees. Here are a few of the organizations who will be at the citizen science fair:

Speakers include Dr. Bill Bowerman of Clemson University, Kimberly Hall of The Nature Conservancy, Melinda Koslow of the National Wildlife Federation, Phyllis Higman of the Michigan Natural Features Inventory, Catherine Lindell of Michigan State University, and Tim Wilson of USDA - Wildlife Services. Terry Rich, Partners in Flight National Coordinator, presents information on the new Partners in Flight Trinational Landbird Plan. Michael Hutchins, Executive Director of The Wildlife Society, discusses policy priorities of The Wildlife Society. Dinner on Saturday will be a buffet catered by the organizers of the 2009 Chef's Challege showcasing some of the fine Michigan cuisine that has been part of the Chef's Challenge. Dinner will be accompanied by an informative and entertaining presentation about Michigan's woodcock banding program. Sunday: citizen science fair where a variety of opportunities to participate in conservation will be spotlighted - the event is open to the public and admission is free! Silent AuctionThe silent auction held annually at the congress is one of the largest fundraisers that MiBCI has. The funds raised help offset the costs of bringing in high quality and nationally recognized speakers and are used to lower registrations costs for everyone attending the congress. This past year, some of the proceeds of the auction were used to help get the MiBCI sponsored Michigan Birding and Wildlife Trails program started. The auction is entirely dependent on donations of goods and services, and each year, a diverse collection of unique items is gathered from a very varied group of bird conservation supporters. This year's auction is no different, and items range in value from about $1 up to $250.
